Youth programs

Habitat likes to get as many youth as we can to volunteer their time. See two of our programs below:

Youth Court Partnership and Youth Week.

Volunteers who want to build the homes must be at least 16 years old. If you are looking for something “constructive” to do this summer then sign up to get involved now! Get your volunteer application filled out on our Get Involved page!

Youth Court Partnership

Youth Program Video

In Partnership with the Missoula County Youth Court, Habitat for Humanity of Missoula has developed a community service program for at-risk youth.  The Habitat for Humanity of Missoula Youth Program aims to help at-risk youth, the Missoula County Youth Court, Habitat for Humanity of Missoula as well as the entire Missoula Community.

The Habitat for Humanity of Missoula Youth

Program works with young men and women

from the Missoula County Youth Court who

  have been assigned community service

hours for a variety of different reasons.  This

program is based on the principals of

restorative justice, and aims for these youth

to give back to the community that they have

wronged at some point. Once on the Habitat

  jobsite however, these youth instantly

become a part of the Habitat community,

building homes as a team for Missoula

                                                                       families.

This unique program benefits these youth by teaching them new skills, providing them with a safe environment and giving them the opportunity to meet different members of their own community, all while helping Habitat for Humanity of Missoula accomplish its goal of providing clean, decent, safe and affordable housing while improving the value and appearance of Missoula.

During the 2007 Habitat for Humanity of Missoula building season the Youth Program saw 28 participants from the Missoula Youth Court, working over 1,300 hours! These youth can be found working on any given Habitat work day and are involved in all aspects of the building process.  Participants from the Missoula Youth Court were involved in the entire process, from groundbreakings in April to dedications in December.

The Habitat for Humanity of Missoula Youth Program pioneer year has been funded by grants, and as proud as we are about the program, the future of it is still an uncertainty. We are currently active in the search for sustainability, so any donation or funding is a step towards securing the success of this program in the future. The Habitat for Humanity of Missoula community is already such a caring and giving group of people that we see the challenge in asking for even more donations. However, if you like where we are heading with this program we are thankful for any donations.  You can also help if you know of any groups, organizations or foundations that would be interested in supporting a program like this.
